NEW YORK'S FILM CRITICS HAVE CAST THEIR VOTES

The New York Film Critics Circle handed out their first awards in 1935. The group honored “The Informer” as BEST PICTURE, Charles Laughton as BEST ACTOR (for “Mutiny on the Bounty” and “Ruggles of Red ½Gap”), Greta Garbo as BEST ACTRESS (for “Anna Karenina”) and John Ford as BEST DIRECTOR (for “The Informer”). To read the Circle’s choices for BEST OF 2006, browse below. But bear in mind that four of New York’s finest critics--The New Yorker’s Anthony Lane and The New York Times’ A. O. Scott, Manohla Dargis and Stephen Holden--apparently do not participate in the voting, since they are not listed among the membership on the group’s Web site.
